Speak Out Scotland was set up as a direct response to the lack of services for male survivors of childhood sexual abuse. The core management team is made up of male survivors. They have experienced first hand the issues and difficulties that men face and are aware of the issues and obsticals along the road of recovery from sexual abuse trauma. This knowledge has been used to create a service which specialises in high quality talking therapies, advocacy, group work and support services. The fundamental mission of Speak Out Scotland is to support and assist in improving the lives and wellbeing of male survivors of childhood sexual abuse in Scotland.
Research has shown that services for male survivors are inadequate and some statistics show that as many as one in four males are sexually abused, taking these figures into account this would suggest 126,211 men in greater Glasgow and Clyde have been affected by childhood sexual abuse.
